30 before 30! - thanks to my parents for the experiences

I read an interesting post today on the Huffington Post.  It was "Turning 30, 30 things every women should have and know."  Here is how I did!  (I copied and pasted the list and put my comments in a courier font.)  I owe it to my mom and dad for helping me with this "suggested list".

By 30, you should have ...
1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come. - Only one?  Come on...I have this one beat!!

2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.
  - My first furniture was purchased for me by my wonderful parents! And yes...I agree, it's nice to have your own stuff.

3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.
  - OH YES!!  My mom taught me how to love my dresses:-)

4. A purse, a suitcase, and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.
  - check, check, and check.  All when I was young..thanks mom and dad!

5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.
  - this one is tough.  I am so happy to move forward, but I am SO thankful for the experiences I was blessed to have.  My parents gave me a world of opportunity...and I am comfortable knowing what I have done and knowing where I am going.

6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.
 - yes.  oh hell yes:-)  I think my parents know more then they let me know.

7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age -- and some money set aside to help fund it.
- check!

8. An email address, a voice mailbox, and a bank account -- all of which nobody has access to but you.
- done.

9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.
- you shouldn't have to pad it...you should work to prove it.

10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
 - sometimes these are the same people.  I would add a friend who pushes you beyond your limits...both physically and mentally

11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.
 - done, done, done ;-)

12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
This one is hard...does a new pair of running shoes count?

13. The belief that you deserve it.
Deserve and need!!!

14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine, and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.
I am not so good at the skin-care, sometimes I sleep in my make-up.  Exercise...it's my drug of choice.

15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship, and all those other facets of life that do get better.
OMG...YES, YES, YES!!  I love my career, LOVE my husband (who rocks my world!!) and life is what you make it.  You can choose to believe it gets better, or you can choose to keep it as is.

By 30, you should know ...
1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.
The difference here is between love and lust.  I once loved somebody and I did lose myself...but I lusted more then I loved.  When I finally "saw the light" I realised that if they don't love you for you with out changing...f**k them.  Your love should make you better, not the same or worse.

2. How you feel about having kids.
ehh.

3. How to quit a job, break up with a man, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.
tough life lessons!  Agreed....good to know.

4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
This is tough too!  It is hard to hard to learn to saw "screw it" but when you come to that place, stress seems to melt away!

5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
Ask Garry;-)

6. The names of the secretary of state, your great-grandmothers, and the best tailor in town.
:-)

7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
Everybody should live alone for a period of time...even if it is short lived.

8. Where to go -- be it your best friend’s kitchen table or a yoga mat -- when your soul needs soothing.
- give me a running trail and my dog.  Or a campfire and a bottle of wine!

9. That you can’t change the length of your legs, the width of your hips, or the nature of your parents.
Love your body and who made you.

10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
Mine was pretty perfect to me:)  Thanks mom and dad!  Some times I think I still act like a kid!

11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
It isn't worth it.  If you have to compromise yourself, don't do it.

12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or not flossing for very long.
 - I floss mostly every day!

13. Who you can trust, who you can’t, and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
Don't take it personally if I don't trust you...trust is earned, not given.  I will work to trust people, but I don't start out fully trusting.  It's all good! I take the same thing in return also. I will work to earn trust!

14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
You can be sorry for a situation, but you need to own your mistakes and others need to own theirs.

15. Why they say life begins at 30
I have only been 30 for 3 months...the list is complete!  However, I would add the importance of travel.
